Ghana risks becoming Muslim-majority country if LGBTQ is allowed – Rev. Philip Naameh

Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC), The Most Rev. Philip Naameh has said that Ghana risks becoming a Muslim-majority nation if activities of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Queers and Associates are legalised in Ghana,

According to the leader of Catholics in Ghana, legalizing LGBTQI gives Muslims a numerical advantage and will “in a very short time” rmake Muslims rise to become the majority and declare Ghana a Islamic State.

This is the first time such a line of argument has been made public since the discussion of LGBTQI ban began in Ghana. This development is likely to bring cracks to the concerted fight against LGBTQI currently being waged by both Christians and Muslims including the National Chief Imam.

The Most Rev. Archbishop Philip Naameh was sspeaking to CNN in Accra.

He told the American news outlet that LGBTQ legalisation could tip the scales to favour Muslims.

“Those who are promoting gays and lesbians are not going to have children at all, and within a short time nobody should be surprised that Muslims will become a majority in this country and declare it an Islamic state,” Archbishop Philip Naameh, the president of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference said.

The Most Rev. Philip Naameh beyond being President of the Catholic Bishops Conference is also an influential figure within the Christian Community in Ghana.

In 2009, he was appointed the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tamale by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

He was enthroned Archbishop on 25 April 2009, and has headed the Archdiocese of Tamale since 2009 concurrently serving as president of the Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference with Charles G. A. Palmer- Buckle being his vice president.

Philip has taken up the issue of sexual abuse in the Church and made it his pastoral priority.
